A former prison officer has been jailed for 13 years after admitting to a number of serious sexual offences in Aberdeenshire.
Russell Maitland was sentenced at the High Court in Aberdeen on Tuesday, January 16. The 37-year-old’s offending took place between 2011 and 2022.
He previously pleaded guilty to the offences at the High Court in Aberdeen on Monday, November 25.
It’s understood that Maitland was suspended while a police investigation was undertaken and is no longer employed by the Scottish Prison Service.
Detective Constable Karen Ivancic said: “The victims have shown great strength in coming forward to report Maitland’s offending and throughout the legal process. I hope the outcome in court will provide them with justice as they continue to move forward with their lives.
