Full Surrey A3 closure next weekend near M25 as warning issued to drivers

National Highways will be closing the A3 for a full weekend at the end of January, that drivers will need to take note of. Works are ongoing at the Wisley Interchange, so a heathland bridge can be installed, which is the first in the UK.

A diversion route will be put in place for drivers, so Cockcrow Bridge can be put up. The stretch will be shut south of the M25 in both directions between junction 10 and Send B2215 and the A247.

It is estimated that M25 works at junction 10 will be completed by summer 2025. The three year project is anticipated to have costed £317 million in total, and is hoped to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and create safer journeys.

Linking Ockham to Wisley commons, the heathland bridge is set to be 30 metres in width and will act as a corridor for wildlife with heathland covering it. Creatures including invertebrates and reptiles will be able to go between each side of the common which is good news for birds, toads, sand lizards and tiger beetles.

The A3 will close from 9pm on Friday, January 17 until Monday, January 20 at 6am. The diversions drivers can take are as follows, drivers can follow yellow boarded signs set out by National Highways.

Southbound

The diversion route to go southbound during the closure will be via Cobham, Chessington, Great Bookham and Effingham, rejoining the A3 at Send.

Northbound

to travel northbound the diversion route will be via East Clandon, Effingham, Fetcham and then onto the M25 towards Wisley.
