Drivers will need to plan ahead, as they prepare for the A3 to close this weekend (January 17 -20). National Highways will shut the highway from the Wisley interchange at junction 10 and the B2215/A247 at Send.
The weekend closure will start at 9pm on Friday, January 17 and continue until 6am on Monday, January 20. It is being put in place to enable the installation of the Cockcrow bridge, the UK’s first heathland bridge.
This is all part of the wider improvements happening at the Wisley interchange. This £317 million project is due for completion this year, with the Cockcrow bridge being one of the key milestones yet to complete.
This particular bridge will connect Ockham and Wisley Commons for the first time since the A3 was built in late 1970s. This area contains some rare and beautiful habitats and the project is meant to bring with it environmental improvements and restoration of the heathland.
The closure will mean that drivers will need to stick to a number of diversions based on where they are going to and from. These are:
Southbound A3 main diversion:

via eastbound (anticlockwise) M25 to junction 9

to rejoin the southbound A3.
Southbound A3 non-motorway diversion:

via northbound A3, A245, A307, A309, A243, A246, A247

to rejoin the southbound A3.
Northbound A3 main diversion:

via B2215, A247, A246, A24, A243

join westbound (clockwise) M25 at junction 9
-
rejoin northbound A3 at junction 10.
Northbound A3 non-motorway diversion:

via B2215, A247, A246, A24, A243, A307, A245

to rejoin the northbound A3 at the Painshill junction.
Wisley Lane diversion (both directions):

via Portsmouth Road (B2215)

Newark Lane (B367), Warren Lane, Pyford Road, Lock Lane

to rejoin Wisley Lane.
Guileshill Lane diversion:
RHS Wisley will remain open. Access to the gardens will be via Portsmouth Road (B2215) or via Ockham Road (B2039) to Ockham Park roundabout and then Wisley Lane. There will be no access to the Garden via Pyrford Lock.
