A gardai ‘take down’ spotted in Galway has seen the arrest of a man in his 40s after a public order incident caused officers to intervene.
Gardai were called to Eyre Square in the city centre following reports of disorder as an eyewitness claimed to have seen the incident, which took place at around 10pm on Wednesday night.
Sharing the incident on social media, they claimed to have seen ‘a random fight’ take place between two men in the square before gardai officers approached one of the men and arrested him.
According to the post, the man had to be restrained by gardai as he was ‘screaming his head off’ while being put into a gardai van.
The full post read: “I was walking up Eyre Square and noticed from a distance an excellent takedown of one guy in a random fight in the square.
“Assuming it was two drunk dudes being stupid, but then two uniformed guards ran up and they cuffed the guy.
“Five minutes later he still screaming his head off as they load him into the back of the paddy wagon they called in.
“Best part was as the three Gardai spend two or three minutes trying to lever his squirming ass into the unmarked garda car.
He was roaring “ooohhhh my face, ooooohhh my face my face!” while trying to kick the s*** out of everything.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told Galway Beo: “We can confirm the arrest of a male (40s) in connection with a public order incident on Eyre Square shortly before 10pm last night.
They added: “He has since been released pending further inquiries.”
