A pervert who raped an unconscious child after giving her alcohol has been jailed for 14 years.
The youngster woke to find Andrew Mackay, 64, forcing himself on her. She made her objections clear and he said it wasn’t fair. She lapsed back into unconsciousness, only to come round to find him continuing to abuse her.
Mackay denied the attack but was found guilty of offences including rape and sexual assault at Newcastle Crown Court. As he was jailed, the schoolgirl outlined the impact his offending has had on her. She said: “Immediately after the attack I was in fear of leaving the house alone. I had threats made against me and didn’t feel comfortable knowing he was on bail. I felt like I could bump into him.
“I was unable to live a normal life most days with this hanging over me. To think he got pleasure from harming me is disgusting. To know he tried to make on I lied about what happened is the final straw.”
The girl said the trauma has led to her self-harming and attempting to kill herself. She said she has been “so angry and emotional at times” and it has been hard for her family to know how to help her.
She added: “I will no longer be able to look back on my teenage years as the best years of my life. I can never forgive him for what he has done.
“I know him being found guilty is a positive thing but I still feel broken and the damage is done.”
Nicoletta Alistari, prosecuting, said: “On the day of the offence he provided her with a significant amount of alcohol. She woke up in a room and remembers being unable to breathe. And she remembers pain.
“She appears to have lost consciousness.” When she came round again, he was continuing the sex attack.
Miss Alistari said: “She was heavily intoxicated and defenceless. He made threats to her to deter her reporting the offence.”

Mackay, of Bute Drive, High Spen, Gateshead, was found guilty by jurors of two counts of rape, sexual assault and assault by penetration. As well as being jailed for 14 years, he must sign the sex offenders register for life and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for life.
Passing sentence, Judge Sarah Mallet told him: “On this night you provided her with so much alcohol she had a very limited recollection of the events that followed.”
The court heard Mackay maintains his denials. The judge was provided with positive references from family members and a work colleague.
