A fire onboard a Gatwick Express train has led to the station closure this afternoon (Monday, January 6). Passengers have been rushed off of the train, according to online reports.
A spokesperson for Gatwick Express on X has said that emergency services are dealing “with an incident at Gatwick Airport.” They have also confirmed that no Gatwick Express services will run “until further notice.”
A video posted to X by BBC 5 presenter Clare McDonnell shows a train on fire at Gatwick. She said: “Heads up if you are heading to Gatwick Airport the train I was on from Brighton to London Victoria just caught fire as it pulled in. So the station is currently closed. So far it seems everyone is fine and staff acted quickly to get everyone out Gatwick.”
A post from London Gatwick Airport to X confirms there has been a “fire alarm activation at the train station” and that passengers “have been evacuated into the South Terminal.”
