Glasgow man, 69, dies and woman in hospital after fire in city’s southside

A 69-year-old man has died after a property fire in Glasgow’s southside.

Emergency services raced to Greenview Street in Pollokshaws after receiving reports of a fire at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, January 15.

A woman was also taken to hospital as a precaution following the blaze.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire, however, it is not believed to be suspicious.

Images shared with Glasgow Live showed a large emergency services response to the blaze with several fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles in attendance.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “A 69 year-old man has died following a fire in Greenview Street in Pollokshaws, Glasgow.

“Emergency services were contacted around 6.35pm on Wednesday, January 15

“One woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire which is not believed to be suspicious.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was contacted for comment.
