Grangetown man accused of attacking woman appears in court

A Teesside man is due to stand trial accused of attacking a woman.

Grangetown’s Mark Bird appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, in Middlesbrough, on Wednesday, to face a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. It follows an alleged incident on March 17, last year.

Dressed in a navy Fila coat, the 40-year-old confirmed his name and date of birth before pleading not guilty to the charge. The Eglington Road defendant was told he will stand trial at the same court in April.

Addressing the defendant, District Judge Marie Mallon said: “Your trial will take place on the 10th of April I’m granting you bail to come back at 9.30am ready for a 10am start.”

No further details of the case were outlined during the short hearing.
