A passenger on a delayed train from Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings Cross missed his daughter’s 21st birthday due to the interruptions.
Wilson Chowdhry’s LNER train was meant to depart at 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 14, but saw delays due to a road vehicle collision.
Edinburgh Livereported on the delays when LNER announced a vehicle had collided with a bridge between Newcastle and Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
The train departed from Edinburgh Waverley about 40 minutes late and slowed to a crawl during its journey.
The delays were disappointing for Wilson who had woken up at 3am to travel to an important work meeting in Edinburgh and was looking forward to celebrating his daughter’s 21st birthday after returning to England the same day.
He arrived in the Scottish capital at 10am and planned to depart for England on the 6:30pm train to London Kings Cross in time for his daughter’s birthday dinner.

However, the delays meant that the plans “dissolved”.
Wilson said: “Of course it is disappointing that this has happened. It will affect my daughter. I will end up arriving quite late.
“Our plan is now dissolved. I’ll have to miss the meal where we would have been celebrating.”
Wilson added that his main concern was the lorry driver’s safety but reiterated his disappointment at the turn of events.
He added: “It’s first time I’ve missed her birthday. Generally I always have been there for it.”
