High school to shut tomorrow as it falls victim to cold snap

A North Staffordshire secondary school is to close tomorrow after falling victim to the cold snap. Leek High School confirmed that students should stay at home due to the icy conditions.

The Springfield Road school had opened today (January 9) after welcoming back pupils for the new term on Tuesday and then shutting on Wednesday. Staff then made the Friday closure announcement on social media this afternoon.

The post reads: “School is closed due to inclement weather. If you need school, please contact a member of staff. Leek High School will be operational for staff tomorrow and we can help if needed.”

Multiple schools across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire have had a delayed started to 2025 after disruptive snow arrived on Monday and then froze over leaving the grounds slippery.

The Staffordshire Moorlands has been particularly badly hit with Westwood College in Leek, St Bartholomew’s Primary School, Longnor, St Edward’s Academy in Leek, St Leonard’s First School in Ipstones and Meadows School in Leek all remaining closed today for safety reasons.
