Horror moment Elizabeth line passenger dragged along by moving train with hand stuck in door

A passenger was dragged by a moving Elizabeth line train after their hand became stuck in a door. Shortly after midnight on November 24 a passenger got his hand stuck in the closing doors of a train at Ealing Broadway station.

The train then began to depart while their hand was stuck in the doors. They were forced to run alongside the train for several metres before pulled away by a member of railway staff.

Nearby passengers were able to notify the driver and the train was stopped after 17 metres. The Department for Transport confirmed the passenger suffered minor injuries because of the incident.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch is now appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened. The RAIB is launching an independent investigation. It will consider the actions of those involved and anything which may have influenced them and the arrangements in place to manage and control the risks associated with passengers boarding and alighting from trains on the Elizabeth line.

It will also look into the post-incident management of platform-train interface accidents and any underlying management factors. Anyone with information is asked to call 01332 253324 or email witness@raib.gov.uk.
