A large search and rescue operation was launched in Cornwall after a horse rider suffered a serious fall. Emergency services were sent to remote Carneglos Tor on on Bodmin Moor on Saturday afternoon (January 4).
East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team (SRT) volunteers have shared their efforts and told what happened after Cornwall Air Ambulance reached the scene. An animal rights groups has claimed the incident was connected with a hunt in the area, which is Forestry England land near Launceston.
The rescue team said the alert was raised shortly after 2pm. It added: “The first call out of the year was to assist a male horse rider who was in and out of consciousness following a nasty fall within the forestry at Halvana Woods, sustaining head, face and back injuries.”
When they reached the scene they found emergency services were already at the location.
“Due to the poor weather, South Western Ambulance Service deployed various resources including HART, air ambulance, local ambulance crews and the rescue team to ensure resources quickly reached the rider.
“As our first vehicle approached the RV point, it was confirmed that the air ambulance crew had managed to safely reach the casualty, and the team stood down. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
East Cornwall SRT is a local charity that provides an inland search and rescue service for lost, missing and injured people across east Cornwall and further afield when required. It is 100 per cent voluntary and relies on public support to keep the service operational.
