Inquest into death of ‘bubbly’ girl killed in car park tragedy postponed

The opening of an inquest into the death of a baby girl who died following a crash at a car park has been postponed due to a power cut. Six-month-old Sophia Kelemen, from Leigh, was taken to hospital following the collision at a car park in Tenby, south-west Wales, on January 2.

She tragically died from her injuries the following day. A 33-year-old man from Leigh was later charged with a number of offences, including causing death by dangerous driving.

Sophia’s inquest opening was due to open at Pembrokeshire County Hall on Friday (January 10), Wales Online reports. Following a delay, Pembrokeshire Council confirmed that a power cut had affected its IT systems and the inquest could not go ahead as planned.

It is now expected to take place next week, with a new date yet to be confirmed. Flaviu Naghi, of Irvine Street, Leigh, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

He appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, January 4, where he was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance. Naghi is next due to appear before Swansea Crown Court on February 7.

Sophia’s aunt Adriana previously told the Manchester Evening News: “We had just been together at Christmas. Sophia hardly ever cried. She was so smiley and bubbly. We used to say she was so advanced for her age.

“She really wanted to walk, and was really excited, playful and energetic. She was the cutest and most adorable girl, who had just started babbling. It’s horrible we didn’t get the chance to see her grow up or make memories with her.
