A police investigation has been launched after a woman was bitten on the leg by a dog in South Shields.
Officers are appealing for information after a woman was injured between 5pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Police say a woman had been walking at the Leas, near to Trow Quarry car park, when she was attached.
A dog, believed to be a tan and white bull dog type breed, which was wearing a black harness and no lead, approached the woman and bit her leg. A man, who was in the company of the dog, has then left the area on foot.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “The woman – aged in her 40s – sustained puncture wounds which have required treatment at hospital on two occasions. A number of inquiries have been carried out by officers since the report was first received to identify the dog, who was in the company of a man believed to be in his 50s.”
The force is now urging any witnesses or the dog owner to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police by sending a direct message on social media, using live chat on the force’s website or by completing a report form page on the website.
