Residents have awoken to find what has been described as like a “crime drama” on their doorstep after a man in his 30s was attacked.
Neighbours stood in front of their homes and cars slowed to see white-suited investigators probe an incident behind a large cordon on Windsor Road in Normanby on Saturday. Uniformed police officers and paramedics also attended the scene after the man suffered “non-life threatening injuries”.
Cleveland Police confirmed the attack took place at around 7.15am on January 4 and saw a man, in his 30s, injured in the Clive Road and Windsor Road area. He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for treatment.
Neighbours said cops have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and have obtained CCTV and door bell camera footage from several homes. One witness described the scene as like a “crime drama”, he said: “You can’t get down a big section of Windsor Street. There was an ambulance here earlier and you can see blood on the path.
“Police have been knocking on doors this morning. I’ve never seen anything like this – it’s like a TV crime drama with all the blue tape.”
Another said he was unable to get into his garage due to the blue and white cordon which included three homes. He said: “There were loads of police and an ambulance on Garden Place this morning. It’s getting worse round here. I need to get into my garage but it’s in the cordon and police say I’m not allowed.”

Some residents said they only realised there had been an incident when they heard the blare of sirens at around 7.30am, however others told Teesside Live they saw a man “stumbling in the street”. One said: “He was on Garden Place and was taken to hospital as was stumbling in the street. It’s such a shock, we’ve had police round this morning asking if we have CCTV.”
A number of residents told Teesside Live that the attack was a “stabbing” but this has yet to be confirmed by the authorities. Pictures taken at the scene show two evidence markers within the police cordon.
A crime scene officer took pictures of the pavement outside one home as uniformed officers guarded the scene. A Cleveland Police van was parked at one side of the cordon, as well as a crime scene investigation van blocking access to the scene.

Cleveland Police has now launched an appeal asking for witnesses to come forward. A spokesperson said: “At 7.15am on Saturday, January 4, police received a report that a man had suffered an injury from an assault believed to have taken place in the area of Clive Road/Windsor Road in Normanby.
“The man, aged in his thirties, has been taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is at an early stage and there are cordons currently in place whilst enquiries continue.”

Paramedics also confirmed their attendance and said they requested help from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. A spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident at a private address in Middlesbrough this morning (4 January) at 7.26am.
“We dispatched one ambulance crew, one duty officer and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken to hospital.”
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have doorbell footage or CCTV footage in the area, to contact Redcar and Cleveland CID on 101, quoting reference number SE25001849.
