Kent lorry crash saw car hit by debris and driver injured in city centre

A collision involving a lorry in Canterbury city centre resulted in a second crash and the driver of a car being injured on Monday afternoon (January 6). Emergency services, including officers from Kent Police, were called to Rheims Way near the city wall at 4.18pm after a lorry struck the central barrier on the road.

Images from the scene showed that the lorry had caused extensive damage to the barrier and the road was partially cordoned off while responders worked. A car had also been hit by debris following the collision.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and there have been no other casualties reported. Responders worked throughout the evening to recover the lorry and handle the damaged barrier, with police staying at the scene for nearly six hours.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at 4.18pm on Monday 6 January to a report that a lorry had struck a barrier in Rheims Way, Canterbury. Officers attended the scene where a car had also been struck by debris from the collision.

“The car driver reported a minor injury. Highways attended to deal with the damaged barrier and the lorry was recovered. Officers remained at the scene until shortly before 10pm.”
