Leeds bin collections cancelled this week as city gets ready for heavy snow

Bin collections across Leeds have been cancelled this week in anticipation of the heavy snow set to fall across the city tonight.

Leeds City Council has said that due to the severe weather warning for heavy snow over this weekend, bin collections which were set to take place on January 5 will no longer go ahead. Instead, any bins due to be collected on this day will now be collected on Sunday, January 12.

According to the council, this is to make sure all bins can actually be collected, and to make sure staff and residents remain safe. These plans will take 60 LGVs off the road in the predicted treacherous weather.

The council said it would have a fleet of 30 gritters, quad bikes and tractors covering primary routes across the city.

Leeds City Council said: “Due to the severe weather warning for heavy snow this weekend, refuse collections due to be made on Sunday (January 5) have been postponed until Sunday, January 12.

“This is to make sure all bins can be collected and reduce the risks for our staff and residents in the expected challenging conditions by taking 60 LGVs off the road. Anyone due a collection this Sunday is asked to leave their bin for collection on Sunday, January 12, instead.

“Our gritters will be out over the weekend, with a fleet of 30 gritters, quad bikes and tractors covering primary routes across Leeds. Please remember to take care and check weather updates.”
