Homes in Canterbury remain with no water or reduced supplies this morning (Monday, January 13) after a South East Water main burst over the weekend. Having first been reported on Saturday, January 11 as the county endured persistence sub-zero temperatures, it took some time for crews to locate the source of the non-visible burst which affected households in the St Martin’s area.
Connors Way was then identified as an ‘area of interest’ and a road closure was put in place to allow the incident team to dig and begin repairs. Crews worked through Sunday night and South East Water has confirmed this morning that supplies have been restored to most customers in the St Martin’s area.
However, other households continue to experience reduced supplies or are still without water completely while the works are carried out. A bottled water station is once again operating this morning at the New Dover Road Park and Ride while bottled water deliveries will be carried out for customers who have registered for priority services.
The latest South East Water update adds: “The repair to the burst main will continue today and a road closure at the site will remain in place for the safety of the public and our workforce. This has been a very complicated issue to resolve and we apologise to our customers for the considerable inconvenience caused.”
