Two young men from Somerset are standing trial accused of the murder of a festival worker. Andrew Main, 33, died in hospital almost a month after suffering serious head injuries in Swansea city centre in July last year. We have a reporter in court and will be posting regular updates below.
Joseph Dix, 26, of Frome, Somerset, and 27-year-old Macauley Ruddock, of Bath, were initially charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm before being charged with murder following Mr Main’s death. The pair deny murder and are on trial at Swansea Crown Court. The trial is expected to last two weeks.
Mr Main, from Falkirk in Scotland, was rushed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff following an alleged attack on Princess Way in the early hours of morning of July 17, 2024. He was then taken to a hospital in Edinburgh where he later died.
His sister Nikki Main has since paid tribute to him. She said her brother was “adored by family and friends and beloved by more”.
She said: “He will forever live in our hearts and memories. He was a witty man with a huge heart – loyal to the core. He was a fabulous brother, fun uncle, and supportive daddy to his two children. There will never be anyone like Andrew. The hole that has been left in our hearts will never be filled. Everyone in our community has been grief-stricken, but we have rallied together as one at this sad time.”
