M42 tragedy as pedestrian killed in crash

A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a car on the M42 in Solihull. West Midlands Ambulance Service received a call from West Midlands Police reporting a serious collision involving a pedestrian on the southbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3a at 11.09pm yesterday, Sunday, January 13.

An ambulance, paramedic officer, a specialist paramedic, a trauma team and a doctor responded to the scene. The patient was given life support but despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorway was closed in both directions to allow investigations and later re-opened.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived, they found emergency service colleagues providing basic life support to a male pedestrian in a critical condition after reportedly being involved in a collision with a vehicle.

“The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support. Sadly despite everyone’s best efforts nothing could be done to save the man, and he was confirmed deceased on scene a short time later.”
