Major commuting route closed for repairs following flooding

A major route is closed to allow repairs after it was flooded. The A452 Collector Road was cordoned off northbound between Birmingham Road and Solihull boundary on Monday, January 6, following heavy rain and snow.

Emergency repairs are being carried out on the carriageway, near Chelmsley Wood. It is expected to reopen on Wednesday but an exact time has not yet been given.

Solihull Council posted about the closure on social media.

Solihull Council said: “A452 Collector Road – closed northbound between Birmingham Road and the Solihull Boundary. Closed until 6pm on Wed 8 Jan due to flooding.

“Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Heavy rain and snow brought rush hour chaos to the region on Monday. The Environment Agency issued 16 flood warnings including eight in Birmingham.

In a separate incident, two cars were submerged in flood water on the A4091 near Middleton Hall in north Warwickshire. Coleshill Fire Station said: “We must emphasise to only travel if absolutely necessary. Conditions are hazardous with heavy snowfall please be careful.”

A car became engulfed in deep waters on Green Road, off Sarehole Road in Hall Green, after the River Cole flooded.
