A re-jigged housing development for the former Terenure College junior school lands has been submitted.
The new planning application for the scheme has been submitted for the development along Fortfield Road. The land is owned by the Carmelite Order and Terenure College and has been deemed surplus to their needs in the future.
The overall scheme will include 284 homes over 19 houses and 265 apartments. The apartment blocks will range in height and max out at six storeys.
The houses will all be four bed and between two and three storeys. While the apartments will include ten studios, 117 one bed, 129 two bed and nine three bed units.
The development has been welcomed by the Carmelite Order who have given permission for the use of the lands within the current Terenure College campus. They said there will be enough land remaining for the future expansion of the school and its activities.
Carmelites Provincial Fr Simon Nolan said: “It will allow for a capital injection into Terenure College and secure the College’s future viability as a secondary school as well as benefit the ongoing work and ministry of the Carmelite Order in Ireland, Zimbabwe, and other parts of the world. Development of the site to the north-west of the Terenure College lands will ultimately enhance and secure the continued operation of the school, its playing fields and swimming pool with more than sufficient space to cater for any school expansion.
“School activities and those of the various groups that use the school grounds can be more than comfortably accommodated on the remaining College lands. The subject lands are no longer required by the Order for the purposes of its functions and mission.”
There will also be a creche, community culture and arts space and residential amenity space within the development. Fortfield Road and College Drive will also be upgraded to a four-arm signalised junction with a seperate application for that change already submitted to South Dublin County Council.
For parking there will be 165 spaces available for residents. Included with the plans are 633 bike spaces and 14 spaces for motorcycles. A previous larger application for the site was refused permission.
Observations can be made on the application until January 31 – a decision date has not yet been published. Observations on the application for the junction change on Fortfield Road can be made until January 20, with a decision expected by February 10.
