A major park and ride site in Nottingham remains closed after it was flooded. Queens Drive Park and Ride, located off the banks of the River Trent and across the road from the Riverside Retail Park, was closed on Monday, January 6, due to flooding risk.
Nottingham City Council confirmed on Monday, January 13, that the site is still closed. In an update over the weekend, Transport Nottingham said: “Queens Drive park-and-ride remains closed over the weekend and possibly into the early part of next week.
“Thankfully most of the floodwater has now receded but much of the site is covered in ice. A number of equipment checks will take place when it has melted.”
The car park was closed after snowfall on Saturday, January 4, melted quickly the next morning and was followed by torrential rain on Sunday, January 5, and Monday, leading to a risk of flooding. Transport Nottingham said: “Rising levels of the nearby River Trent over the coming days will likely cause floodwater to collect in significant sections of the car park.
“Water can sometimes take a while to recede and staff will then need to check infrastructure on site and carry out any repairs.” CT4N’s Medilink service continues to run whenever Queens Drive is closed, operating between the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, via Wilkinson Street.
Alternative sites are available at Nottingham Racecourse near Colwick Park, as well as tram park and ride sites at Clifton, Toton Lane, The Forest, Hucknall, Moor Bridge, Phoenix Park and Wilkinson Street.
