Major response as trucks catch fire in blaze at Cork business

Firefighters are at the scene of a blaze at a commercial premises in Cork this evening.

Emergency services arrived at the incident at approximately 6.30pm today (Saturday 4th January) after huge clouds of smoke were seen coming from the Sarsfield Court Industrial Estate, just off the Upper Glanmire road.

Six units from Cork City Fire Brigade are responding to the incident. It’s understood that the fire was brought under control quickly and that five trucks and a car were destroyed in the blaze – firefighters remain on the scene to dampen down the area.

A photo taken from the incident shows firefighters using two high-powered hoses to contain the blaze, which we can see has engulfed a number of vehicles.

There were no injuries and no structural damage has been reported.

Speaking to CorkBeo, Victor Shine from Cork City Fire Brigade said: “The fire was brought under control quite quickly and teams are just dampening down now. I believe five trucks and a car were damaged in the incident.

“There was no structural damage – the blaze was confined to a yard in the area. There were no injuries. Gardaí are trying to find the cause of the fire.”

This is the second fire reported in County Cork today after a nightclub property and apartments were damaged in a blaze in Kinsale early this morning.

The alarm was raised to smoke and fire at the property at approximately 6 am today – Gardaí also responded to the scene and diversions were put in place.

It’s believed there were no injuries, however it’s understood the fire has caused significant damage to the Kinsale property.
