Disruption to a major city road is set to start on Sunday, January 12 for three weeks. The section of Derby Road between Spondon roundabout and the one at the junction of Raynesway and Acorn Way is affected and access to Asda at Spondon will also be altered during the day.
Derby Road will be closed for resurfacing, with work taking place overnight from 10pm until 6am Sunday to Friday. The road will remain open on Saturday night where possible, according to Derby City Council. Both roundabouts will remain open throughout the three weeks.
During the closures, a signed diversion will be in place for through traffic along the A52, via Pentagon Island and Nottingham Road. The junctions for Aspen Drive and Asda will also be affected. – access to Asda will be subject to daytime disruption, with traffic being diverted via Aspen Drive.
Both Derby Road and Nottingham Road are undergoing improvements to deliver new infrastructure that makes active travel, such as walking and cycling, easier. This includes new cycle lanes and improved pedestrian crossings. Resurfacing will commence on Nottingham Road shortly after the completion of the Derby Road works.
Councillor Carmel Swan, city council cabinet member for climate change, transport and sustainability, said: “This resurfacing on Derby Road is just a small part of a much wider scheme of improvements to this key route.
“I appreciate that these works may be disruptive, but we have worked hard with contractors to make sure that access is maintained wherever possible and disruption is kept to a minimum.”
