Man, 18, arrested after woman killed in hit and run on New Year’s Eve | UK | News

A man has been arrested after a woman died during a hit-and-run incident in Renfrewshire on New Year’s Eve.

Elizabeth Kennedy, 70, was struck by a car in Barrhead Road, Paisley, at 7pm last Tuesday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after police and paramedics arrived. Police Scotland had been trying to trace the driver who had fled the scene as well as the car.

The force announced on today (January 4) that it had arrested a man, 18, who was later released pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Jan MacColl said: “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family, friends and everyone affected by this tragic incident.”

DI MacColl said Police Scotland officers continue to support Ms Kennedy’s family as the force’s inquiries continue to progress.

She urged anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have seen a white car in the area around that time, which possibly showed signs of damage, to come forward.

The detective added: “We would also ask anyone with dashcam footage that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 2566 of December 31.
