An arrest has been made after a woman died after being hit by a car. Emergency services were called to the junction of Liverpool Road and Hillside Road in Huyton to reports of a crash involving a Mazda and a female pedestrian at around 4.40am on Thursday, January 16.
Police have now confirmed the woman died at the scene and she has been named as Catherine Dodd, 59, who was from the Huyton area. Her family is being supported by specialist officers as enquiries continue, police said.
The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man from Huyton, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said he has been taken to a police station for questioning.

In a statement, they added a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous police contact with the victim. A road closure remains in place in both directions on Liverpool Road from junction 2 of the M57 to Blue Bell Lane.
Drivers are being told to avoid the area as a cordon remains in place. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts and condolences are with victim’s family at this tragic time, and we will do all we can to establish the circumstances.
“For this reason, we are very keen to speak to anyone who was passing by or close to the junction of Liverpool Road and Hillside Road at around 4.40am. You may have captured valuable evidence via your dashcam or other devices and be unaware, so please check and come forward at the earliest opportunity.
