Man, 48, in court after three seriously injured in Argyle Street ‘stabbing’ incident

A 48-year-old man is to appear in court after three people were seriously injured close to Glasgow’s Argyle Street on Tuesday (January 7), in an incident police were treating as a ‘stabbing’.

The incident occurred in the early hours to reports of a man and a woman seriously injured on Argyle Street. The pair, a 49-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, were taken to hospital.

A 76-year-old man was found seriously injured in a property on nearby Blantyre Street. He was also taken to hospital.

All three were arrested in connection with serious assault, with Police Scotland yesterday telling Glasgow Live the incident was being treated as a ‘stabbing’. Police added the incident occurred within a property on Blantyre Street.

A 48-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with robbery and has since been charged in connection with serious assault. He is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday (January 8).

On Tuesday, Argyle Street was closed between Bunhouse Road and Sauchiehall Street as forensics officers worked at the scene. The roads have since reopened, but officers remain in the area.

Police said anyone with any information or concerns can approach these officers. A Police Spokesperson said: “Detectives in Glasgow are continuing enquiries following a disturbance within a property on Blantyre Street on Tuesday, 7 January, 2025.

“Around 1.10am, we received a report of a man and woman injured on nearby Argyle Street. Emergency services attended and the man, aged 49, the woman, aged 48, were taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

“A 76-year-old man was traced in a nearby property on Blantyre Street and was also taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. All three were arrested in connection with serious assault and enquiries are ongoing.

“A 48-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with robbery. He has since been charged in connection with serious assault and is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 8 January.

“Road closures were in place on Tuesday between Bunhouse Road and Sauchiehall Street. This area has since reopened, however officers remain in the area to carry out further enquiries.

“Anyone with any information or concerns can approach these officers.”
