A man will appear before a crown court judge later this month to face a string of charges including defecating onto a public bench.
Malcolm Wanless, 68, is charged with outraging public decency following an incident on June 1, when he allegedly defected onto a bench on Dovecot Street, in Stockton. The incident allegedly happened on June 1, last year.
The Hartlepool man appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 30 to face the charge. He is also accused of assaulting an emergency worker on March 2, last year, and damaging a cell on the same date.
The charges outlined that Wanless allegedly assaulted a detention officer, “acting in the exercise of her functions as such a worker, by beating her”. It is also alleged that the defendant damaged a cell to the value of £400 belonging to Tascor, “intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.”
The case was transferred to Teesside Crown Court where the Derwent Street defendant will appear on January 13. Court documents state he was remanded on conditional bail.
