Man charged after fatal Cumbernauld crash killed ‘one in a million’ dad

A man has been charged eight months after a “one in a million” dad was killed in a fatal road crash in Cumbernauld.

William Henderson was seriously injured after he was allegedly hit by a black Citroen C4 on Greenfaulds Road at around 8.10am on Sunday, May 26. The 49-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment where he later died.

Police have today, Thursday January 16, confirmed that a 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences.

He has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A 39-year-old man has been arrested following an investigation into a fatal road crash on Sunday, 26 May, 2024.

“The incident happened around 8.10am on Greenfaulds Road, Cumbernauld. Emergency services attended and a 49-year-old man, William Henderson, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he later died.

“The 39-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. He has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”

William’s heartbroken loved ones paid tribute to the dad who was described as “one in a million”.

Gordon Lyon said: “We lost one of life’s good guys. There are no words that can describe the pain we are all feeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Henderson and Mann family at this devastating time. Rest easy my friend.”

David Mann said: “[I’m] honoured to call him my brother in law, [he] treated my sister like a princess. Forever in our hearts William.”
