Man denies attempted murder after alleged shooting in Essex housing estate

A man has appeared in court to deny attempted murder after an alleged shooting in Waltham Abbey last November. Hamidreza Nasiri, 30, was arrested and charged by police after an incident on Howard Close shortly before 3.30pm on November 24.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a man being shot. He was taken to hospital for further treatment to his leg and his condition was not described as life-threatening.

Nasiri, of Holbrook Close in Enfield, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He denied both charges when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court on January 6.

The defendant was given a provisional trial date for Basildon Crown Court of April 14. Two others – a man, 54, and a woman, 41 – were both arrested on conspiracy to commit murder and remain on bail.

Essex Police’s Tim Tubbs, a superintendent in the force, said in the aftermath of the incident that he was “aware how concerning” it might have been for those living on the street and who had witnessed it from their doorsteps.
