A man died after 999 crews were scrambled to the scene of a medical emergency. Crews, including an air ambulance, were called to Upper Gungate near Tamworth town centre just after 1pm today, Monday, January 6.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two land ambulances and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance after reports of a man suffering a medical emergency in a car.
He was found in a critical condition and given advanced life support. But nothing could be done to save him.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “We were called to a medical emergency on Upper Gungate, Tamworth, at 1.23pm on Monday, January 6. Two ambulances and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance responded to the scene.
“Crews arrived to find the driver of a car, a man, in a critical condition. He received advanced life support on scene but sadly nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead on scene a short time later.”

Upper Gungate was sealed off at its junction with the B5493 Ashby Road and Comberford Road, close to the Landau Forte Academy QEMS school and traffic diverted, which led to queues in the area.
