Man ‘led to safety’ as blaze breaks out at Coventry flat

Firefighters led a man to safety after a fire broke out in his flat in Coventry. West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) said that the flat in the Warwick Street was filled with smoke when crews arrived.

A 999 call was made just after 12.50am this morning (January 16) and a fire engine and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle from Coventry station raced to the scene within five minutes. They found a kitchen fire on the ground floor of a three-storey block of flats.

“The fire, started by a pan left on a cooker, was out when we arrived at the scene.” said a WMFS spokesperson said. “It caused smoke logging to the property, with the sole occupier being led to safety by firefighters.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service told CoventryLive that it was alerted but paramedics were not needed to attend. “Precautionary health checks were carried by firefighters but the casualty was uninjured,” the WMFS spokesperson added.

“Firefighters reset the alarms, ventilated the property and left the scene at around 1.50am.”
