Man named and charged after five-hour Coventry Villa Road police incident

A man has been charged after a five-hour police incident in Coventry. Police were called to Villa Road at the junction with Radford Road on Friday (January 3).

Neighbours dialled 999 after a man was seen on the roof of a property on Villa Road. Police were dispatched to the scene and spent around five hours there.

A 36-year-old man, named by police as Robert Tallis, was arrested on Friday (January 3). He has since been charged with assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, obstructing police, and aggravated trespassing.

Tallis has also been charged with two offences relating to an investigation being led by Warwickshire Police. He has been remanded to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on Monday (January 6).

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We have charged a man with a number of offences after an incident in Coventry. Robert Tallis was arrested on Friday (January 3) following an incident on Villa Road in Radford.

“Tallis has now been charged with assaulting a police officer, causing criminal damage, threatening to cause criminal damage, obstructing police, and aggravated trespassing.

“He has also been charged with two offences relating to a Warwickshire Police investigation. Tallis has been remanded to appear before Coventry Magistrates’ Court on January 6.”
