A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after two crashes close to each other on the A19 in County Durham.
The southbound carriageway of the A19 near Castle Eden remains closed due to the traffic collisions. One of the collision was serious, and occurred at 4.53am this morning, Durham Constabulary confirmed.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route while the cars are recovered. We will update you as soon as the road is reopen.”
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called shorty before 5am on Sunday 12 January to a road traffic incident on A19 at Castle Eden.
“We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, a clinical team leader and one vehicle from our Hazardous Area Response Team. One patient was taken to North Tees Hospital.”
