A man was taken to hospital after he was assaulted outside the Matalan store in Smethwick. The victim was said to have been attacked by a member of the public around 5.15pm on Wednesday (Jan 8), at the Windmill Shopping Centre.
West Midlands Police and paramedics attended. Staff treated a man for injuries not said to be serious at the scene before transferring him to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
The police force has been contacted for a statement. A spokeswoman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.19pm to reports of an assault on Cape Hill in Smethwick. One ambulance attended the scene.

“Upon arrival we found a man who was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. He was conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further assessment.”
A Matalan spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident outside our Smethwick store on Wednesday during which a customer was assaulted by a member of the public and required medical assistance. The safety of our customers and colleagues is our number one priority, and we are working closely with the police to support their investigation into the matter.
“We would like to thank our colleagues for their prompt action and the emergency services for their quick response”
