Two major Derby roads are set for a series of closures over the next month ahead of key maintenance work. National Highways confirmed that the A516 northbound and southbound slip roads, to Hospital Island and Mickleover Island, would be the subject of a series of daily 10-hour closures while work is completed.
The closures will be in place overnight, from 8pm to 6am, starting Monday, January 23 and finishing on Friday, February 14. A spokesperson for National Highways, confirming the roadworks, said: “We’re making safe or removing vegetation that presents a hazard to road users on the A38/A516 slip roads in Derby.
“We will clear branches that are overhanging the carriageway, lift the crowns of some trees and remove some dead trees that are within falling distance of the road. We’ll also remove brambles and scrub and before doing any work will make sure there are no nesting birds.
“We’ll work overnight, between 8pm and 6am, Mondays to Fridays, under full slip road closures.” The A516 northbound exit slip road to Hospital Island will be closed from Monday, January 13 to Friday, January 24, with the southbound exit slip road to Mickleover Island set to be closed from Monday, January 27 until Friday, January 14.
During the closure, National Highways says a signed diversion will be in place and has assured that access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout. A spokesperson added: “We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.
“We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes.” The signed diversion can be viewed by clicking the link here.
