Much loved Edinburgh bar hits the market after just two years of operating

A much loved pub on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk has hit the market just two years after opening.

The legendary Dog House – a bar that aims to be inclusive and welcoming to all who pass through its doors – underwent a huge transformation in 2023 to replace the Mouse Trap.

The venue on Leith Walk is the capital’s second Dog House, after the original bar on Clerk Street took over from the old McSorley’s in 2015.

However, the Leith venue has now hit the market with a listing being advertised on Star Pubs.

The bar is also marked as “permanently closed” on Google.

Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the listing is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to get into the pub and hospitality industry.

A description on Star Pubs reads: “Nestled in the heart of Leith, the Dog House is more than just a pub—it’s a lifestyle. With its quirky decor, warm atmosphere, and loyal clientele, this is the perfect place for a new operator to bring their vision to life .

“The pub benefits from being one of 40 pubs found in an area of around 15,611 adults. The Dog House customer base is made up of young and midlife adults.

“Available on our 3 year foundation tenancy. Click here for more information on this agreement. The potential of this pub lies in developing a well thought through wet-led offer. What drinks would you look to implement in the pub?

“The site currently has the ability to drive trade via live entertainment, and it offers a selection of, popular beers, ciders, wines and spirits, and cask ales.

Speaking about the opening of the venue back in 2023, owner Tony Pert said: “We want to bring back the LGBTQ+ friendly aspect, that was something the Mousetrap had lost. We want to make the place as welcoming as possible. It doesn’t matter if you’re coming by yourself, on a date or with your friends everyone feels welcome and everyone feels like they are having a good time.

“It’s a friendly safe place for everyone. Weird and wonderful, our slogan is ‘Where the misfits fit’.”
