Newcastle’s own DJ Schak has been accused of stealing a parrot, and he has responded to the allegations on social media.
The musician, real name Shakeil Luciano, was shocked when he became aware that police wanted to speak to him regarding the theft of the bird.
Schak explained to the officers that the confusion was caused when he shared a video of his friend’s parrot dancing to his Creamfields set on social media. This went viral, and the bird was mistaken for another feathered pet, which went missing from a North Shields home in August.
The DJ took to TikTok and Instagram in the days that followed, posting a video which explained the situation and gave his reaction in a typically-lighthearted way. This also gained a lot of social media attention, with the TikTok clip now having over 275,000 views.

DJ Schak said: “I’m not angry at the situation as I think that the person who alerted the police is struggling to cope with their bird being missing, but I was originally shocked when the police let me know that they wanted to talk to me.
“I made it clear straight away that I didn’t have anything to do with this and that I would have no reason for doing so. It feels like a lot of stuff has been made up and the fact that police were sent to my door over something I had no involvement in is crazy, but I feel sorry for them as they have lost their parrot at the end of the day.
“I was just really confused, as if I had stolen this parrot, why would I then post it all over social media so everyone can see? It’s such a random situation and I’m glad that it was cleared up quickly, but like I said, I just feel sorry for them and hope that they can get the help that they need.”
Northumbria Police has confirmed that the crime has closed due to there being no further lines of enquiry, and that it would only be reopened if further information came to light.
