Northern Gas apologises for inconvenience as Ferensway sees six week lane closure

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has apologised for the inconvenience caused by a six-week lane closure on Ferensway.

NGN, the gas distributor for the North of England, is undertaking work on Ferensway (northbound), causing the closure of the left-hand lane between Pearson Street and Lombard Street. The work, that NGN say is “essential” to “ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas”, is expected to last until February 14, having commenced on January 6.

The purpose of the work is to replace ageing metal pipework with new plastic pipes, which NGN say will be more durable.

As well as blocking the left turn off Ferensway into Portland Place, the width of the path has been temporarily reduced by around two-thirds, essentially necessitating a single file arrangement for pedestrians.

Much of the path is also closed.

Chris Keith, Operations Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses in Hull.”
