Northumbrian Water says A192 in Northumberland temporarily closed due to burst water main

Northumbrian Water has confirmed that the A192 to Blyth is to remain temporarily closed in both directions after a burst water main caused flooding on the road.

The flood was reported shortly before 1pm this afternoon, with officers from Northumbria Police closing the road and urging drivers to seek alternative routes. The flooding occured close to the Keel Row pub, in between Blyth and Seaton Delaval.

However, Northumbrian Water confirmed this evening that the problem had not affected the water supply to customers in the area, but did say the the A192 to Blyth is to remain temporarily closed.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Northumbrian Water said: “We are currently on site dealing with a burst water main on the A192 at Seaton Delaval near to the Keel Row pub. The burst was reported to us this afternoon (16/01/2025) and our crews are working to isolate and repair the burst.

“There has been no direct impact on our water supply to our customers in the area and we are aiming to have the repair completed as soon as possible. The A192 is temporarily closed due to standing water and to allow the repairs to be carried out quickly and safely.

“Please find an alternative route. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.”

Officers from Northumbria Police were also in attendance at the incident and warned drivers to avoid the area.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Just before 1pm today (Thursday), we were made aware of a burst water pipe on the A192 near Seaton Delaval.

“Emergency services are in attendance and supporting engineers at the scene. The A192 is currently closed to traffic between the B1326 and A1061 in both directions. Motorists should use alternative routes where possible.”

The road still remains closed.
