A 27-year-old Derby man repeatedly stabbed his Nottingham victim multiple times outside a city centre nightclub, an attempted murder trial has heard. CCTV played at Nottingham Crown Court showed Connor Page use the blade several times on Skye Severn following an argument outside the I-Club in Wilford Street in the early hours of June 23, last year.
The tip of a knife was left lodged in the skull of the victim and it had to be removed through surgery. And in phone footage played to the jury a large crowd all witnessed the attack with one woman heard screaming “he’s stabbing him, he’s stabbing him”.
Page, of Metcalfe Close, Alvaston, denies the charge, admitting to being the knifeman and carrying out the attack but denying he intended to kill 25-year-old Mr Severn, of Bilborough.
Alex Wolfson, opening the trial, told the five women and seven men on the jury: “There is no dispute between the prosecution and the defence that the defendant used the knife to repeatedly stab Mr Severn. He had been shown up for mistreating a female in a very public setting.
“He could have chosen to walk away, but he returned and stabbed him multiple times to the head and body. One stab on its own could have been enough to kill him.
“The prosecution say this was a repeated and persistent attack. You might choose to call it a frenzied attack. It only ended because someone dragged this defendant off from stabbing Mr Severn.

“He was taken to hospital with several stab wounds. The tip of a knife was lodged in his skull and he had to have an operation to remove it. The defendant has already admitted responsibility for the assault because he has pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“The issue for you, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, is intent. The prosecution says he was trying to end Mr Severn’s life.”
Mr Wolfson said police were called to reports of a fight outside the I-Club music venue, formerly the Irish Social Centre, just before 4am on the morning of the stabbing. He played CCTV which showed the accused and victim come together in the street and then separate for around a minute.
The pair then come back into view and the attack with the knife begins before Page is dragged off and walks away while Mr Severn is helped to his feet. Giving evidence, the victim said: “I saw someone assaulting a woman and I went over to try to get him to stop. I told him to get off her, I was told to leave it and walked away.
“He approached me and we ended up fighting and I obviously ended up getting stabbed.” Mr Wolfson asked him: “Did you see anything in his hand?”
Mr Severn replied: “Maybe. I don’t know if it was a knife but I tried to take it off him because I was getting attacked.” In cross-examination, Steve Cobley, defending, said: “There is no doubt that Connor Page caused the injuries we have seen.
“A knife was pulled on Connor Page wasn’t it?” The victim replied: “Was there? Not by me, mate.”
The trial continues.
