A nursery in Huyton has shut today following an ongoing incident on Liverpool Road. Merseyside Police were called to Liverpool Road at around 5am on Thursday (January 16) following a serious crash, which had shut the road in both directions.
Liverpool Road is currently closed from Blue Bell Lane to the M57 while police continue their investigation work. Our reporter, who is live at the scene, has reported a number of smaller cordons in place surrounding Liverpool Road.
A woman is in hospital with serious injuries following reports of a collision involving a Mazda and a female pedestrian. The driver of the car stopped at the scene.
Following the incident, Unity Childcare and Pre-school have said it will be closed today and potentially tomorrow as the road to the building is currently closed by police.
The nursery made the announcement on social media this morning, a spokesperson said: “Due to an incident on Liverpool Road overnight, police have closed access to the road and our building. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to open today and potentially tomorrow.
“This is completely out of our hands, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more. Thank you for your understanding.”
A spokesperson for nearby, Alt Bridge School has confirmed it will remain open today.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We are appealing for information following a serious collision in Huyton this morning, Thursday 16 January. At around 4.40am, emergency services were called to the junction of Liverpool Road and Hillside Avenue to reports of a collision involving a Mazda and a female pedestrian.
“The pedestrian sustained serious injuries. The car stopped at the scene. A road closure is in place in both directions on Liverpool Road from junction 2 of the M57 to Blue Bell Lane. Please avoid the area.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson said: “As a matter of urgency, we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or was passing by at the time and may have captured anything on dashcam or other devices.
“Road closures will remain in place for a significant time as officers carry out the initial stages of this investigation. Motorists are advised to find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience.”
