The UK’s “most desirable” towns have been named, and one of them has surprisingly affordable houses, relatively speaking.

The list was compiled by The Telegraph saw it commission estate agent Savills to use the latest Census data to choose places that scored the highest across several factors.

These included the proportion of residents holding managerial jobs, their level of qualifications, the state of their health and the costs of buying a home.

Horsforth was placed 42nd in a list of 50. It is a town and civil parish in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and is located five miles north-west of Leeds city centre.

It was historically a village within the West Riding of Yorkshire. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 24,310 living in Horsforth. In 2011, it stood at 21,506.

The town is famous for its bars, restaurants, supermarkets and a wide range of both independent shops and branches of larger businesses.

Horsforth is nowadays a suburb of Leeds, and one of most affluent parts of the city.

It is conveninetly located close to both the city centre and open spaces surrounding Leeds.

Of late, it has reportedly proved popular for families, because the town is located within the catchment area of some highly rated schools.

In December, The Telegraph reported the average price of a house in the town is £327,400.

Compared to other places on the list of affluent areas in which to live, houses in some of these locations cost on average more or just less than £1million, property in Horsforth is relatively attainable.

In fact, they’re the cheapest.

In 2024, Rightmove said of house prices in Horsforth: “House prices in Horsforth have an overall average of £338,799 over the last year.

“The majority of properties sold in Horsforth during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £352,319.

“Terraced properties sold for an average of £281,560, with detached properties fetching £544,653.

“Overall, the historical sold prices in Horsforth over the last year were similar to the previous year and 1% down on the 2022 peak of £342,696.”
