An LNER train from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross has seen delays due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge.
LNER live departures updated passengers saying:
“A road vehicle colliding with a bridge earlier today between Newcastle and Berwick-Upon-Tweed means trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
“LNER tickets will be accepted on CrossCountry services between York and Edinburgh at no extra cost.”
The train was set to depart from Edinburgh Waverley at 6:30pm but saw a 40 minute delay to departure due to a lorry reportedly being stuck under a railway bridge.
Initially, the train was halted in Waverley station and not moving, causing some passengers to “panic” and call home, according to passenger Wilson Chowdhry.

He told Edinburgh Live: “It was just that initial panic. I could hear several people calling home saying they weren’t going to make it back tonight.
There were concerns that lorry would need to be removed and safety inspection would be undertaken. It wasn’t at first clear how we would be stopped. I think people expected the worst.”
While the train saw just a 40 minute delay from Edinburgh Waverley, Wilson said the train had since slowed to a 20mph crawl and was stopped just before Alnmouth.
LNER has been approached for comment.
