Pedestrian nearly hit by ‘cattle prod’ in Cambridge sparks police search

A pedestrian said they narrowly avoided being hit by a ‘cattle prod’ after a vehicle drove at them in Cambridge on Friday (January 3). Cambridgeshire Police confirmed officers were sent to the area of Water Lane after the incident was reported.

The person involved said they were walking along Water Lane when a pick-up truck swerved across the road towards them and mounted the kerb, before aiming a “big cattle prod” at them. They said they managed to dodge and got the vehicle’s registration number before calling 999.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “The pedestrian was not hit and was unhurt. Officers attended and tracked the vehicle down in the local area. They detained the three occupants and carried out a search but found no cattle prod or evidence of criminal activity, so the occupants were released.”

The pedestrian said the incident on Friday was the fourth time they had called 999 while walking in the area in the last year. They shared a message from the police regarding their report with CambridgeshireLive, which said their report was being filed because “there are no evidential lines of enquiry to pursue”.
