Person trapped after campervan flips in Devon crash

A person has been cut free from their vehicle after a crash in North Devon today, Friday, January 10. Emergency services were seen at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Barnstaple which involved a campervan.

Two fire crews from Barnstaple attended the single-vehicle crash on Bear Street at 12.25pm. One person was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be rescued. The male driver suffered a minor injury to their hand, police have said.

A witness at the scene said: “Road closure and accident in Barnstaple”. Another person said: “Avoid Bear Street between the traffic lights and Bicton Street”.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue has said: “At 12.25pm today, two appliances from Barnstaple Fire Station attended a single vehicle RTC involving a camper van on Bear Street in Barnstaple.

“On arrival, one person was trapped inside the vehicle so crews used stabilisation equipment and small tools to work alongside ambulance crews to safely extricate the casualty who is now in the care of the ambulance service.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at 12.20pm today, 10 January, following a single vehicle collision on Bear Street, Barnstaple. The van was in collision with a wall and overturned, ending up on its side. The male driver was trapped in the van.

“Ambulance and fire attended. He was extracted from the van by the fire service and is being treated by paramedics for a minor injury to his hand.”
