Peterborough Cross Country trains see severe delays and cancellations all day

Rail passengers are being warned of severe delays to some train services in Cambridgeshire today (Monday, January 6). Flooding between Peterborough and Leicester means all lines on the Cross Country service are currently closed.

As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised, National Rail said. Disruption is expected to continue for most of the day, until around 9pm. Passengers who need to travel today have been directed to bus replacements or have been advised to use alternative routes.

Rail replacement buses are running between Peterborough and Leicester, calling at Stamford, Oakham and Melton Mowbray. Tickets will be accepted on the following alternatives, at no extra cost:

  • Avanti West Coast between Birmingham New Street and London Euston
  • East Midlands Railway between London St Pancras International and Leicester
  • Great Northern between Ely and London Kings Cross
  • Greater Anglia via any reasonable route
  • LNER between Peterborough and London Kings Cross
  • London Underground via any reasonable route
  • London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and London Euston
  • Thameslink between Peterborough and London St Pancras International

National Rail said: “Check before you travel. You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

“For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page. You can find the pick-up and set-down location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page.

Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey. You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.”
