Plans submitted for a new 500-space park and ride to the north of Hull

Major plans for a 500-space park and ride service on the outskirts of Hull have been submitted.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council proposals are for land south of Raich Carter Way, at the Dunswell roundabout, and would also include a new 12-bay bus depot for East Yorkshire Buses, and a petrol station with a shop. The plans also include three drive-through units, two for fast food and one for a coffee shop.

Documents suggest the park and ride could “provide fast links between Hull and Beverley and the major medical centres at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital at Cottingham.” It is also hoped that it would reduce traffic congestion at peak-hours on commuter routes.

Access to the site would be possible for cars and buses from both the A1079 and Raich Carter Way.

There have been concerns over the plans with Yorkshire Water submitting a document saying, under the current layout of the proposals, “buildings will be sited over the public water supply infrastructure located within the site”.

The letter goes on to say: “This could seriously jeopardise Yorkshire Water’s ability to maintain the public water network and is not acceptable. We therefore object to the development layout as currently shown. I strongly advise that, prior to determination of this application, the site layout is amended to allow for adequate protection of the water mains.”

Yorkshire Water do say that in certain instances the water main can be diverted at the developer’s cost.
