Plymouth school announces temporary closure to staff and students

A school in Plymouth has announced that it will be closed to all staff and students tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14, due to an issue with the heating system. Notre Dame School has told parents that there has been a failure with the heating system within the main school building.

As the main school building has no access to hot water or heating, the school is unable to open. For the safety of its staff and students the school will close until the problem is fixed.

It is expected that the issue with the heating system will be repaired in time for the school to be reopened to students on Wednesday. However, the school warned that parents and carers will receive updates tomorrow.

In a statement to parents and guardians, Notre Dame School said: “Due to a failure with the heating system in the main teaching block we are currently left without heating and hot water. Unfortunately this means we are forced to close the school tomorrow for the safety of the students. We are hopeful that the boilers will be repaired so that we can reopen to all students on Wednesday but will send a communication to all parents and carers tomorrow to provide an update.

“Please be aware that work will be set for your child by each of their usual teachers for tomorrow, who will be available to provide support or answer any questions either by email or the chat function on Google Classroom throughout normal school hours. Kind regards, Notre Dame Plymouth.”

Forecasters at the Met Office have said temperatures across the city will remain low tomorrow, with highs of 10°C and lows of 4°C. Temperatures will remain below 10°C until midday until 5pm where it will begin to get colder through to tomorrow night.

It is forecast that there will be overcast cloud for much of the day, with some sunny spells breaking through. There will be some slight breezes, but no disruption is expected.
